'How To Stop Snoring'
There are many causes for snoring including lifestyle, allergies and health problems such as hyperthyroidism, arthritis and asthma. The snoring sound is made by the narrowing of the airways in the throat caused by the muscles relaxing during sleep. These muscles then knock against each other causing them to vibrate and this produces the loud snoring noise.
This can be made worse by drinking alcohol as it's a muscle relaxant. If you don't want to stop drinking in the evening just make sure that you allow at least 4 hours from your last drink and going to bed. Going to bed drunk could lead to sleep apnea which is a total blockage of the airways causing you to stop breathing for short periods of time. This usually wakes up the sufferer and is rarely fatal but could cause severe disruption of sleeping patterns.
Smoking can cause an inflammation in the tissues of the air passages causing them to swell and narrow. Even if you are a passive smoker and don't actually smoke but live or work with smokers you are still liable to suffer from the same symptoms.
Obesity can increase the amount of tissue in the throat and neck making it denser and more heavy. This makes the airways much narrower and when you are lying down the muscles squash together causing a blockage. The narrower the passages become the louder the snore as air is forced down at a greater speed.
Some foods can trigger snoring including dairy products. Some people have a sensitivity to dairy products and this can cause the membranes in the nasal passages to swell. Other foods including onions and garlic are anti inflammatory and can help to ease swelling.
There are many remedies for snoring including surgery in extreme cases. Nasal sprays and drops may work for a while but after a time they can become less effective and you are still left with your snoring problem. Nasal strips are a good idea and can be purchased in most chemists and supermarkets. They work by simply lifting the sides of the nose ensuring an uninterrupted airflow from the nose to the lungs.
Anti snoring pillows are designed to make you sleep in a correct posture that stops you from snoring. The edges of the pillow are thicker than the center and aligns the head with the spinal cord. They are often made of anti allergy materials.
